Google Chat Privacy Guard ("the extension") was built with a simple premise: your privacy belongs to you. This policy explains clearly and simply how the extension operates, what data it touches, and how you can get help.
1. Privacy Policy
No Personal Data Collection
- We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data.
- The extension does not track who you talk to, what you type, what messages you receive, or when you use Google Chat.
- No message text, contact names, profile photos, or email addresses ever leave your web browser.
How Your Settings Are Saved
- The extension uses Chrome's built-in local storage API (
chrome.storage.sync) solely to remember your chosen privacy preferences (e.g., whether contact blur is turned on/off and your chosen custom background URL).
- These settings stay inside your Google account's browser synchronization or locally on your computer. We have no access to them.
Permissions Used & Why
storage: Used exclusively to save your toggle preferences (e.g., blur on/off states).
- Access to
chat.google.com & mail.google.com: Required so the extension can apply the visual blur styling and the optional Like reaction button directly on the page. The extension cannot run on or view any other website you visit.
Third-Party Services & Analytics
- The extension contains no analytics trackers, no tracking cookies, and no third-party advertising scripts.
- We do not sell, rent, trade, or transfer any user data to third parties under any circumstance.
2. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Does this extension read my Google Chat messages?
No. The extension only applies visual CSS styles to your browser screen to hide text from nearby people. It does not read, parse, or log your conversation content.
Can other people in my chat see that I am using this extension?
